I completed this small but powerful painting in 2019, at a time when I was going through a significant transition, after meeting my German birth families, and learning I have artists going back on both sides. It is available unframed.

Pastel on sanded archival paper.
Original art is 30 cm x 23 cm (12″ x 9″).

Tips to keep your painting in perfect condition

  • Your painting arrives very carefully packed.
If it is unframed, the artwork is wrapped with glassine (pergamin) for protection, to help ensure that it arrives in the condition it was shipped. Please keep it covered with the glassine until it is framed, or while it is stored.
  • To avoid marring or smudges, please do not touch the painting surface.
  • Please also see the “Display and Care” tab below.

Quality

All of my pastel paintings are created with the highest quality materials available. The pastel brands I use are primarily the highest grade of Sennelier, Rembrandt, Schmincke, and (rarely) NuPastel. All works are created on archival, museum-quality fine art paper or paperboard, often textured or sanded. Since 2023, the only fixatives I use are of a natural casein mixture, in the tradition of Edgar Degas.

Authenticity and Provenance

The certificate of authenticity—shipped with the painting—helps provide assurance of durable value, by verifying the artwork’s origin, authorship, and provenance. A uniquely numbered holographic identifier is attached to both the certificate and painting. This serial number is registered in both my private legacy records, and in an online artwork registry. This way, each artwork may be independently verified by the owner, as well as future inheritors or buyers.

Have your painting framed as soon as possible. Otherwise, store it only in acid-free materials—such as the glassine in which it was shipped—and always flat (not in a tube).

The safest way to display your painting is with quality professional archival framing, using only acid-free materials. Some collectors attach the certificate of authenticity to the back of the frame, others keep it stored with important papers.

If possible, select museum glass or another UV-protective barrier, to help keep the painting from fading. Sunlight and strong lighting (fluorescent bulbs in particular) can damage artwork over time.

Use either a mat or spacers to hold the glass away from the print’s surface. If you decide on a mat, I suggest that the bevel be reverse cut.

Be aware that cutting the painting to a different size devalues it.

The painting should be hinge-mounted (only from the top, to reduce the chance of wavy paper). It’s best to avoid full adhesive mounts, as they can devalue the painting.

Please avoid long-term exposure to direct sunlight, excessive heat, and very high humidity.

Here’s an excellent article on lighting artwork.

Orders over €125 receive free shipping, regardless of destination.

I want you to feel confident that your order will arrive as quickly as possible, and in the condition we both expect. I also understand your desire for economical and reliable shipping.

All orders are shipped from Germany, with tracking, using DHL. Your shipping charge is exactly what I pay, with no add-on for my time or materials in packing your order.

When will your order be shipped?

Please understand that I am a one-woman business, and as such I must devote time to creating my art, in addition to making my products, selling, and packing and shipping orders.

Germany and the EU

I endeavor to ship your purchase within 24 hours of receipt of the order. If I expect to be unable to ship your purchase within two days, there will be a notice on every page of my store to that effect.

The rest of the world

I endeavor to ship your purchase within 24 hours of receipt of the order, though it may take 2 days depending on the complexity of customs forms needed for your country. If I expect to be unable to ship your purchase within two days, there will be a notice on every page of my store to that effect.

Packaging

Your order is very carefully packed, to ensure that it is received in the condition in which I expect it to arrive. Smaller unframed orders, such as small paintings, are shipped flat, with extra protection to ensure they remain undamaged. Larger unframed items are mailed in robust tubes. I usually combine orders into the largest package, wherever possible.

Shipping destinations and times

If you would like to order shipment to a country outside the regions below, or require premium expedited shipping, please contact me.

From the day your order is shipped:

  • Germany: You should receive your order within 1 to 2 weekdays.
  • European Union: Your order should arrive within one week, hopefully considerably less.
  • Other European countries: You should receive your order within two weeks.
  • The United Kingdom: You should receive your order within two weeks.
  • The US: You should receive your order in roughly two weeks, depending on the overburdened US Postal Service.
  • Canada: Unfortunately, DHL has limited shipping capacity with Canada presently. Unless premium shipping is hired—upwards of €56 per package—all packages are transported by ship. This means that the transit of orders will take a minimum of 20 days, and quite possibly 30 days. I am monitoring this unfortunate situation.
  • Oceania (Australia, New Zealand, US Minor Outlying Islands): 3 weeks or longer.

As is usual in the art world, all copyright remains with the artist, except in cases where a signed contract states otherwise.
