10th Fine Art Photography Awards

I am delighted to announce that the second juried photography contest I entered—the 10th Annual Fine Art Photography Awards—also decided to feature my photography. That’s two for two!

I entered a series of five photographs, all taken in the Sexten Dolomites, in South Tyrol, Italy. This was an international competition, with likely tens of thousands of entries. My work was awarded a Nominee status, which means the series was considered for the top prize in the amateur landscape category.

Red Head
Photograph of a huge, sheer, broken-edged rock face, jutting up in front of an even larger mountain slope. The top of the nearly vertical-faced rock is dotted with tiny conifers that are easily many times taller than a person, but appear minuscule. The rock is a steely blue with hints of lavender, and the mountainside is equally colorful in shades of rust, pale orange and blue. The photo is edged by foreground conifers in the lower corners.

The Yellow Mountain

Dolomites Blue & Gold
Photograph of a stark, treeless mountain landscape. A steep, dark, scree-covered slope in the foreground, gives way to layered mountain ridges with craggy spires, lit by the last of the day's sun. Misty clouds drift low, below and between the foreground ridges, and high stratospheric clouds also fill the dull blue sky.

Are you thinking, "What? I never heard of those."

Okay, since you actually clicked on this, and I’m a bit of an ambassador for things I believe in, I’ll explain:

Mastodon is the most engaging, refreshing social media I’ve experienced. It is a social network based on a non-profit, ad-free model, designed to allow the user fine control over what they choose to see and who they interact with, while retaining full data ownership. It may be smaller, but that’s actually a benefit!

Glass is an image-focused social network, designed by and for photographers, using a subscription-based model, which also provides full user and data control.

Where Am I?

Sometimes in the Washington, DC area.
Sometimes I’m traveling elsewhere.

Otherwise I’m near Landau in der Pfalz, in the Südliche Weinstrasse (Southern Wine Route) region of Germany, characterized by endless vineyards, and bordered by mountains covered with fairy-tale forests. France is 25 minutes away.
